Hello Renai
We are intrigued to find out what it is you are doing at Yoga Sol. Can you tell us about your Modality and what we can expect from a Session with you?
Thanks Claire, I would love to. Stillness Through Movement (STM) Therapy is a restorative therapy that consists of supported restorative yoga poses, breath awareness exercise, meditation and vibrational medicine. The practice helps restore the body/mind connection. Stillness through movement is a process where one learns to align with ones true nature, consciousness/intelligence. Through breath and mind awareness one is able to let go deeply, allowing receipt of the benefits of the STM Therapy practice, bringing the body/mind back to its natural state of peace and contentment.
With the use of aromatherapy and flower & shell essences, one can relax and let go with more ease. The parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS) is activated during the sessions. The PSNS is responsible for balancing the body and bringing its response system back into equilibrium. STM Therapy takes the spine and nervous system out of the “Flight, Fight OR freeze’ response, relaxing and calming the adrenals.
During sessions props are used to support the body to eliminate any strain, postures can be held anywhere from 2mins up to 20mins. In doing this we are alternately stimulating the body to relax and move toward balance. Some poses target a certain area where others have an overall benefit. All create specific physiological responses in the body, which are beneficial to health and can reduce the effects of stress related disease.
So Is Stillness through movement Yoga?
No. STM Therapy is recognised as its own Modality by the International Institute of Complimentary Therapists (IICT).
Your sessions are limited to only 4 people what is the benefit of this? Will the numbers ever grow in size?
As the name suggests the core of STM is to achieve Deep Stillness. My role is to hold the energy of the space, support clients in and out of poses, ensuring props are accurately placed and that each individual receives the support they need to achieve this stillness. The sessions are capped at four so that I can provide the support required. We will have the occasional specialty sessions where numbers will be increased. These sessions will suit clients who are familiar with the STM Practise and can move themselves into poses more easily.
At the moment your sessions are By Donation Will this always be the case?
No. Whilst I am studying I will continue to share the practice by Donation.
When prices increase what will be expecting for the cost of a Session?
On completion of my studies in February 2018 investment for the Deep Stillness Sequence will be $50 per person. From October once I have completed a majority of my studies the suggested Donation will be $25 – $35.
There are many different sequences within this modality, each having varied length, therapeutic affects and investment. As the sessions become available more information will be provided.
Can you tell us what has brought you to STM? and what you see for yourself and your modality in the future.
STM Therapy has been instrumental in aiding my recovery from Chronic & Adrenal Fatigue. When I first started the practice I was amazed at how much better I felt after each session. When it was suggested that I complete my teacher training I jumped at the chance. STM Therapy has had such a positive impact on my life that I am motivated to share it.
It is my intention to continue sharing this modality as my knowledge increases and hope that interest in it continues to grow.
I for one am looking forward to trying this new modality at Yoga Sol and look forward to sharing my experience with you all on our Blog!
